Introduction What is Personality? Personality is a series of characteristic thoughts, feelings and behaviour that differentiates one human being to another and that continues over time and situation (Phares, 1991). According to Ryckman, Personality is the sum of biologically based and learnt behaviour which comprises and forms the person’s particular responses to environmental stimuli (Ryckman, 1982). The changes that reflect particular event and feelings during the lifespan of an individual only affect the surface and not the core character of the individual. Intellectual changes in a personality are usually consequences of major life altering changes (Costa McCrae, 1992). It is necessary that individuals accept and adapt to the certain circumstances that they face in lift and at the same time they need to retain the inner core trait of personality that defines them. Certain traits or adaptation are general and easily accepted. Also they follow a certain pattern, for example, Sensation seeking – this is a characteristic that diminishes over time from teens to middle agers in mostly all cultures (Costa McCrae, 1980). Neuroticism and frankness to experience diminishes over a certain peiod of time and on the other hand self esteem, conscientiousness and agreeableness increase in an individual (Neyer, 2000). The expressions of any personality of an individual largely depends on age and maturity. These activity levels in individuals may thus enhance the likeliness for a sport at a young age and gardening at an older age (Costa McCrae, 1980).
